Staff members from Universal Home Health & Hospice Care recently participated in the Suicide Prevention Coalition 5K. It was a fun day supporting a great cause, and one of our physical therapists, Nick, won 1st place in the 5K run! The Universal Home Health & Hospice Care Team partnered with United Way and over 400 other volunteers for Logan County Community Care Day. The team from Universal specifically assisted in painting the gift shop for the Logan County Friendly Senior Center, with other staff helping with the "Stuff the Bus" items.
The volunteers included, from left to right: Sabra (Community Business Liaison), Melissa (Director of Nursing), Ellen, and Cindy (RNs), and Karen (Director of Hospice). Karla (Social Worker) was absent from the first picture but appears in the second one. Carol and Sue from the Friendly Senior Center were thrilled to have the staff paint their gift shop and were both very gracious throughout our time there, even ensuring that we had lunch. Join us for a safe and supportive space to share your grief journey and connect with others who understand. For more information or to register, please call Universal at 937-593-1605
Facilitated by Karla Gingerich, LISW-S. Every Tuesday Starting August 27th - September 24th 6:00pm-7:30pm @ Universal Home Health & Hospice 921 Rush Avenue, Bellefontaine OH 43311 At Universal Home Health & Hospice, we cherish every opportunity to connect with our community, especially when it involves honoring those who have served our country. Recently, we had the privilege of attending the Logan County Veterans Luncheon, an event that left a profound impact on everyone involved.
One of the most touching aspects of the luncheon was the distribution of gift bags and handwritten letters. Over 50 individuals contributed personal messages to the veterans, expressing their gratitude and admiration. Many veterans shared that the letters, more than the gift bags, deeply touched their hearts. The thoughtfulness and time taken to write these messages meant the world to them, highlighting the power of simple, heartfelt gestures.
The experience at the Logan County Veterans Luncheon reinforced our commitment to honoring and supporting our veterans. Their bravery and sacrifices are the foundation of our freedoms, and it is our duty and privilege to show them the respect and appreciation they deserve. God bless our veterans! We are grateful for the chance to serve those who have served us, and we look forward to continuing to support and honor our heroes in every way we can. CEO Mike Ray recognized Lennel Conrad and Ellen Dixon with 1-year service certificates. Lennel and Ellen are two of our outstanding Nurses at Universal Home Health & Hospice.
Our team would like to thank you for all your compassion, hard work and dedication to the patients and families you serve! Community Outreach Spotlight: Universal's Partnership with United Way at the Honda Health Fair7/3/2024
Our involvement in the Honda Health Fair was multifaceted. Representing Universal, we had the dual role of showcasing our home health and hospice services while also highlighting the impactful work of Camp Braveheart. As many of you know, Camp Braveheart is a cherished initiative supported by funds from United Way, aimed at providing compassionate care and support to those in need.
The synergy between Universal and United Way is truly remarkable. United Way staff members, Becca and Derek, are not only exceptional community advocates but also invaluable business partners. Their dedication to improving community health and well-being aligns perfectly with Universal's mission. Through their efforts, we’ve been able to secure crucial funding for Camp Braveheart, ensuring that we can continue to offer essential services to our community. The Honda Health Fair provided a wonderful platform for us to engage with community members, share information about our services, and demonstrate the positive impact of United Way’s funding. Attendees were eager to learn about the resources available to them, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the community come together in support of health and wellness initiatives. Our partnership with United Way is a shining example of what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared vision. We look forward to continuing this collaboration, reaching more individuals and families, and making a lasting difference in our community. At Universal, we believe in the power of community. Together with partners like United Way, we are committed to providing compassionate care and support to those who need it most. Thank you to everyone who made the Honda Health Fair a success, and we look forward to many more opportunities to serve our community. Stay tuned for more updates on our community outreach efforts and the incredible work being done at Camp Braveheart. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can make a difference!
Charlene: More Than a Nurse
When I asked the residents about Charlene, their eyes lit up. “We love her,” they said. “We look forward to seeing her on Bingo days.” Charlene’s warmth and humor have endeared her to everyone. One resident even joked, “She never calls my numbers!” Laughter echoed through the room as Charlene playfully bantered with the seniors. Bingo, Smiles, and Priceless Moments The pictures from the event tell the story: seniors engaged in friendly competition, eagerly awaiting their numbers, and celebrating wins with genuine joy. For these residents, Bingo isn’t just a game—it’s a chance to connect, share stories, and create memories. And Charlene? She’s become an integral part of those memories. Looking Ahead As we continue our mission to enhance the lives of seniors, we’re reminded that sometimes the smallest moments have the biggest impact. Whether it’s a winning Bingo card or a shared laugh, these connections matter. At Universal Home Health and Hospice, we’re committed to fostering community, one smile at a time. Join us on this journey of compassion and camaraderie. 🌟
Losing a parent or even a grandparent can be a pretty traumatic experience for a youngster. So would be losing a brother or sister or friend. While they can be more resilient, does it make them less likely to have feelings of sorrow and grief?
Fortunately, there’s Camp Braveheart. For several years now, the camp has grown to include 60 children ages 5 to 13, all from the area, who learn that the camp is a safe place to learn to cope with their own grief and to learn that many other children are also coping with the loss of as loved one. This year’s camp will be held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, June 11-13 at Marmon Valley Farm. These children often feel alone, they may even mask their grief. Sometimes they feel that adults don’t understand them or the child might be afraid to talk to an adult about their feelings. At Camp Braveheart, they are surrounded by caring adults, trained counselors and hospice professionals. Camp Braveheart is designed for the specific needs children have when they grieve while offering them a wonderful opportunity to laugh, play and create as well as remember. Children at camp participate in horseback riding, climbing a rock wall, archery, boating and fishing, and crafts. The children will also participate in small groups to help them learn about the grieving process, to express their feelings of loss and to learn that their feelings are normal and shared by other children. Children and their families will participate in a memorial balloon release that symbolizes the release of sorrow while the memories remain in their hearts. Parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members are invited to join the children for this remembrance service on the last day of camp. Camp Braveheart is free to campers and is made possible through contributions from local community businesses, Caring Hearts of Ohio, united Way of Logan County, and the staff of Universal Home Health & Hospice care. For more information about Camp Braveheart or if you know of a child who would benefit from Camp Braveheart, contact Cheryl Varian at 937.844.2894. |
