Universal Home Health and Hospice focuses on the total patient and family unit when providing Hospice care. Our goal is to make the patient's last days as comfortable and positive as possible. It is routine for our staff to request funding from Green Hills Foundation to assist with uncovered medications, equipment and supplies but often we receive requests that are more unusual. The executive management team at Green Hills works with the Director of Community Services to review any requests and determine if funding should be used.
One family that benefited from this was a man who just wanted to go fishing with his brother one more time. He mentioned this to his caregiver, who knew that his time this side of heaven was coming to a close. She went to the Director of Community Services to get permission to set up this trip. After reaching out to his brother, the surprise fishing trip was planned. He and his brother had a wonderful day and made some amazing memories. The gentleman died the next day, making his last full day a perfect one. His brother has those memories for a lifetime. Donor support gave them both that gift.
